In the course of 24 hourly lessons, Maria Efthymiou teaches the History of Modern Hellenism from the 13th to the 19th century, covering this little-known but extremely important period for our present identity.  Starting from the end of the Byzantine era and coming up until the revolution of 1821, she talk about how Hellenism endured and survived during the Ottoman rule, the structures of the Ottoman state at that time, and the processes that contributed to the preservation of the Greek consciousness that ultimately lead to the national liberation struggle of the 1821.
